Our Foundation's Values

We, the advisory board of the Daniel and Susan Pfau Foundation, believe that:

The mutual respect shared among board members and friends of the board* should extend to all members of the wider community.

A commitment to life-long learning enhances the depth and overall effectiveness of our board
and likewise creates an informed, engaged citizenry.

As a charitable foundation, we should provide for our clients’ essential needs but also must strive to instill dignity, self-esteem, and self-respect among those we serve.

Religious, racial, and cultural diversity makes for stronger, more vibrant communities.

Honesty, openness, and trust must always guide the conduct of our business.

The free exchange of ideas and the open expression of differing points of view add value to our
deliberations and discussions as a board.  

All members of our society are created equal and deserve equal justice, civil rights, and
opportunity.

The more fortunate among us bear a moral obligation to serve the most disadvantaged members of our community.

The greater community can achieve its full potential only when community members who are underserved or who have disabilities are empowered to achieve their own potential.

Increased knowledge and awareness of the communities we serve will allow us to be more
strategic, and thus more effective, in granting awards where they will achieve the greatest
impact.  

The bonds of family are enhanced and strengthened through our participation in foundation
business and through our charitable grant-making.

*Nonboard family members who participate in the foundation’s twice-annual meetings.
