The Arthritis Foundation Ohio River Valley Chapter was founded in 1956 to provide leadership in the prevention, control, and cure of arthritis and related diseases in the Ohio River Valley. A gift from the Pfau Foundation will support the Kids Get Arthritis Too program.
In 1980, during his tenure as Archbishop of Cincinnati, Cardinal Joseph Bernardin created the Catholic Inner-city Schools Education Fund (CISE) to help combat poverty in Cincinnati's inner city neighborhoods. Today there are nearly 1,400 students receiving a quality education in the eight CISE elementary schools. In addition, there are over 200 CISE school graduates attending Catholic high schools with the help of the CISE High School Grant Program. A gift from the Pfau Foundation will provide aid to CISE Schools.
CCAT has provided treatment for substance abuse to adults in Greater Cincinnati since 1971. The services offered by CCAT are unique in that it is the only agency offering community-based medical detox and the only 30-day residential program for non-incarcerated adults. The Children's Law Center was created in 1989 with the assistance of Brighton Center, Inc. in Newport, Kentucky. Throughout the twenty-three year history, the Center has become widely recognized across Kentucky, Ohio, and in some areas nationally for its work on juvenile justice, education and indigent reforms for juveniles. A gift from the Pfau Foundation will support Legal Representation and Education Advocacy programs.
In the Spring of 2002, Art Links in collaboration with Cincinnati CAN established a partnership with William Strickland's Manchester Bidwell Corporation (MBC) to begin the first phase of the Cincinnati Arts and Technology Center (CATC). Since 2003 CATC has seen four additional build-outs with capital support from both the City of Cincinnati and the State of Ohio. Over 14,000 sq. ft. now house seven different studios, lecture areas and Art Gallery. A gift from the Pfau Foundation will support the High School Arts and Mental Health Initiative.
Cincinnati Therapeutic Riding and Horsemanship provides horses, training and volunteer assistants for people with disabilities in order to develop physical and mental skills, promote socialization and communication, and build independence and self-confidence. Clovernook Center for the Blind & Visually Impaired strives to empower people who are blind and visually impaired to be self-sufficient and full participants in their communities. Clovernook provides comprehensive program services including training and support for independent living, orientation and mobility instruction, vocational training, job placement, counseling, recreation, and youth services. A gift from the Pfau Foundation will support the Youth Discovery Day Camps for 2014.
FwP was founded in 1998 to support children experiencing homelessness in Greater Cincinnati. Fifteen years later, FwP has provided educational and enrichment programming and crucial services to keep more than 30,000 children experiencing homelessness connected to their education. CET, owned and operated by the non-profit Greater Cincinnati Television Educational Foundation, was the first non-commercial television station in the nation licensed by the Federal Communications Commission. Since 1954, the organization has provided the community with public television programming for home viewers and educational video for teachers and students, and more recently, internet and digital technology services for homes and schools. A gift from the Pfau Foundation will support funding of their IT infrastructure.
Interfaith Hospitality Network of Greater Cincinnati (IHNGC) began on October 26, 1991, with a Day Center located in Lower Price Hill, and eight congregations who opened up the doors of their churches and synagogues to homeless families. Since 1991, the program has grown to include 27 host congregations and 63 support congregations representing people of Protestant, Catholic, Jewish, Muslim and Unitarian faiths. A gift from the Pfau Foundation will support the Emergency Shelter Program.
Milestones was organized and incorporated as a therapeutic horseback riding program in 1999. The program became a Premiere Accredited facility through PATH International in 2001 and has maintained that status ever since. This means that the program meets or exceeds over 80 stringent standards in the areas of Administration, Programming and Facility maintenance. NAMI, the National Alliance on Mental Illness, is the nation's largest grassroots organization for people with mental illness and their families. Founded in 1979, NAMI has affiliates in every state and in more than 1,100 local communities across the country. NAMI is dedicated to the eradication of illnesses such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, major depression, and anxiety disorders, and to improving the quality of life for persons of all ages who are affected by mental illness by providing support, education, and advocacy. A gift from the Pfau Foundation will go in support of Parents and Teachers As Allies Planning Grant.
On February 18, 1888, a group of women from the City of Schenectady formed an orphanage called "The Home for Destitute Children." A series of mergers resulted in the creation of Northeast Parent & Child Society on July 1, 1983. Their agency has guided more than 100,000 children, youth and families from 32 counties in New York's Capital Region, New York City and the St. Regis Mohawk Reservation through their journey into adulthood. A gift from the Pfau Foundation will support the YouthBuild Schenectady: Pathways to Postsecondary Education program.
Ohio Valley Voices formed in 1999 by parents who knew that an oral education could give their deaf children opportunities that would not be available to them otherwise. In 2000, Ohio Valley Voices opened its doors to 12 students. Currently in their eleventh year, enrollment has more than tripled in size. Development of St. Aloysius began in 1832 by Father John Martin Henni and was officially established in 1837 to aid the children left homeless as a result of a cholera epidemic. Today, they are an independent,non-denominational social service agency assisting children displaying cognitive, behavioral, and emotional health problems.
